New wiki and glogster

I created a wiki for my library (not very much content in there yet) and then added glogster as my homepage.

Wikis #16 and random ranting

I cannot believe how quickly summer is flying by. My next CLAD course starts soon, so I would like to complete these 2.0 things, but don't know if I'll have time by the end of summer. I went into work on Friday to check in books that were left in the lockers and classrooms. There were so many they were falling off the circulation counter onto the floor, lovely. I also was checking on the status of some new computers getting installed. Apparently, they have been installed but I do not have the passwords to allow me to access them. Hmmm... I guess this has turned into a bit of a rant - so onto my Week 7, #16: wikis. I think wikis are exciting and I love the collaborative design of them. I'm trying to think of the best way to integrate them into the library curriculum. I have started a wiki for my library on pbwiki, still finding my way on adding pages. I can see the benefit of using it for large research projects such as the ISP or book reviews. I looked at the online tutorials to help me get started.

I also checked out the new search engine cuil. I like the interface a lot. Seems more logically organized than google.

Week 6: Thing 14 Technorati

I looked at Technorati for a bit. I don't know, it seemed kind of klunky to me. I get the power of being able to search the tags within the blogs, I just don't see myself using it very often. Maybe, I haven't given much of a chance but there are so many other sources that I go to for information. I read a few blogs all the time, but that's because they're people I know and want to see what they are up to.

Week 6: Delicious and Tagging

I have been working on my del.icio.us account, setting up my tags, editing my tags, deleting tags and then re-editing tags. The librarian in me has become a little ocd about getting everything perfect. I'm not sure that it is necessary, but it has become a compulsion. I can see where it would be a very powerful tool, nice to have access to all of my favorites at any computer.

I've also lost my mind in Facebook. I've had an acct. for a while, but now over the past few weeks a bunch of my friends have created accts. It's been fun, but I can see where I could stay up until midnight playing with it.

Week 5: Thing 10

Since I am home with a kid with chicken pox -I created an blinking animation for reminding kids to turn in the textbooks. I also created an animation for "Have a great summer" with a wave. Both were created using image chef. I found it to be extremely easy, I just had to remember my password for blogger to import it!

Week 4: RSS Feeds

A couple weeks ago I subscribed to Google Reader. Initially, I subscribed to way too many feeds and was overwhelmed. Slowly, I have tryed to narrow my topics of interest and delete things like "world news." For me the most success I have had is with the library or education topics, such as CTA or CSLA I also subscribe to a google alert for "california education budget" and every day I receive an email with all news stories aggregated together. Very cool but unfortunately depressing.

Week 3: I <3 flickr

For the second part of this weeks assignment I am to post something technology related: my on again, off again relationship with flickr. I have been on flickr since last year -all because I found these flickr friends: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jenniferesperanza/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/scoutj/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/aarynb/ . I have spent hours of time pouring over their photographs and their lives. I became totally addicted to the idea of a photo blog. I joined flickr, got a bunch of flickr contacts and I tried to do a 365 project. In this project you take a picture every day for 365 days, documenting your life (some people do 365 self portraits, but I cringed at the idea of that.) I got to about 50 days/ 50 pictures and then school started, I was no longer going to bed at 11pm, my job became uncertain... you know blah, blah, blah... life. Last week for one of my "things" I went back to flickr. I still think it is cool, but my new obsession is facebook. I have hopes of finishing my 365 project, I got a new spiffy camera for Christmas... so who knows-summer vacation is right around the corner.
